History Maraetai Beach Boating Club Inc has been in operation since 1954 in Maraetai Park. Most of the residents back then were casual holiday makers. Maraetai was an isolated beach paradise at the time with access via a rough and dusty road. Some of these holiday makers had sailing dinghies and it was at this time that an idea was formed to organize a Boating Club. A small working committee was formed and Mr E.R.Eady was elected as Commodore for the first season. The Club operated out of a shed on old Maraetai Wharf and regular races were organized for the yachties. Past Commodores: - 1954 E R Eady 1955–57 L A Griffiths
