History

Maraetai Beach Boating Club Inc has been in operation since 1954 in Maraetai Park. Most of the residents back then were casual holiday makers.

Maraetai was an isolated beach paradise at the time with access via a rough and dusty road. Some of these holiday makers had sailing dinghies and it was at this time that an idea was formed to organize a Boating Club.

A small working committee was formed and Mr E.R.Eady was elected as Commodore for the first season. The Club operated out of a shed on old Maraetai Wharf and regular races were organized for the yachties.

Our existing Clubhouse was opened on 4th August 1979.
Pictured above is one of our old Clubhouses which was situated at our present site  but was demolished upon the building of our present Clubhouse which was built out over the water.
The Breakwater wall was officially opened on 23rd November 1991.

The Club has gone from strength to strength over the years and is now a busy bustling club with over 1000 members.
