Club Championship Fishing

Series Results

The top 8 anglers and 4 top skippers will go forward to represent the MBBC in the Cobbald Shield.  The skippers points are calculated by adding the total points for all anglers on the boat then dividing by the number of anglers.

Remember only your top four competition results from six will be counted so if you missed the last one or had a bad days fishing you can drop that competiton.

Friday 12th February:  .

With so many anglers in the running for the overall series winner spot this competition was always going to be interesting. Team Rackett stepped up to the mark and produced some fine fish with Maria Rack scoring 7 points for the day. The overall results were so close it came down to who weighed in first today. Although we had a number of anglers on a top of 17 points Peter Murray took out the overall first place as he had 17 points the previous competition. A great day was had by all. Check the results below to see who will represent the club in the Cobbald Shield.

Sunday 24th January:  Unfortunately I could not make the competition but from all accounts it sounds like it was pretty hard going.  Good to see a few kingfish showing up.  Dave McCulloch once again showed he is the kingfish master weighing in the winning 11.85kg fish.  His son Jamie is also following in his Dad's steps and landed a 11.57kg kingfish.  Jamie is showing the majority of the adults up and is currently 6th overall.  Well done Jamie.  Snapper were in short supply with the winning fish weighing 1.95Kg.  Kahawai were weighed in good numbers which is encouraging as they seem to have been in decline over the last few years.  The leaders board is beginning to hot up as only the top four of six competitions count with Peter Murray holding on to a one point lead.  With all the kingfish around Dave McCulloch is the one to watch with one competition to run on the 12th February.  Friday night.  This is the last in the series and will be the final prize giving so make sure you enter.  We will have the BBQ cranking with some more lovely sausages donated by Warren Smith of Kitchen Craft. The beautiful stainless BBQ and kids bike will also be drawn.  Every ticket goes in the draw for these prizes.  The competition for MBBC top angler is still wide open.

Sunday 29th November:    With ideal fishing conditions Sunday was a day of first's.  We had our first Jetski competitor, Saul landed a very nice 2.34kg snapper.  We had our first kingfish weighed, Dave Mc Fish landed a 8.2kg kingi.  And we had our first competition with no snapper over the 3kg mark so although the weather looked good the fishing was tough.  Even the Overdose crew who consistently weigh 3kg+ snapper failed to fire. The 'Team Rack' and 'The Gambler' teams made good with some very nice Kahawai.  Maria Rack landed a monster 3.031kg Kahawai to earn three points plus the bonus point.  That was the last competition for the year so enjoy the silly season and we will catch you on the 22nd for some more fun and games on the water.

Friday 13th November:  Friday the 13th delivered it's share of bad luck.  Firstly the weather and then following the very informative fishing club evening which detailed knot tying amongst other things I dropped a nice fish due to knot failure.  Back to basics for me.  For Michael Murray the 13th was good luck, Michael picked up a 2.648kg John Dory and a 1+kg snapper to take out the competition with five points.  Closely followed by Gavin Praugley on four points for the largest snapper of the day at 3.210kg.  In third place was Peter Murray with three points.  Peter has now moved into first equal place overall with three competitions to go.  In the kids competition Tim Bavelaar picked up the largest Trevally of the day and earnt four points.  The Double Dutch team really know how to catch those trevally. Next competition is on Sunday 29th November.  Last one before Christmas so lets make it a good one.

Sunday 1st November:  With beautiful weather for the November 1st competition we had plenty of anglers weighing in snapper over 3kg for the full three points with the largest snapper weighing 7.37kg.  Good effort Willie. Peter Murray had a great days fishing and finished with six points after catching a 2.53kg Kahawai which has propelled him up the leader board.  Although plenty of snapper were weighed the key was catching one of the other species which seemed to be hard to come by.  Shane is still the man to bet on 10 points with the Overdose team putting in consistently good results to get them all in the top eight. Hopefully the Friday 13th competiton won't be bad luck.  See you then.
